Bio:

Kurenai is the younger brother of two reknowned Warstrider pilots, the Kirigasa twin sisters Hotaru and Hikari, who once fully expected their sibling to follow in their footsteps.

From birth he was spoiled and pampered by his family, and this treatment only intensified when he was blessed with the Second Breath at a respectable age. Though jealous rivals would often mutter that it was only the young man’s connections that progressed his quick rise through ranks, he was in actuality a skilled; though reckless; soldier. His love of horses and aptitude with polearms soon found him a place amongst one of Lookshy’s calvary units.

Though charismatic, handsome and genuine, Kurenai’s attention span and temper were short. He would easily become bored of people and things and given to distraction, and this resulted in him having no true friends outside of his family, with the exception of one person. Kirigasa Yuhi was his sometimes-lover and best friend since childhood, and always dutifully stuck by his side. Yuhi never received the Second Breath and his family was not as well off as Kurenai’s, but the young dragonblooded always saw to it that his friend received any training or assignments he wanted by taking advantage of his own family’s connections to pull the right strings. Life was wonderful and promising for them both.

It was during a patrol together when everything suddenly changed. An unexpected and overwhelming incursion of Fair Folk decimated most of the troops under Kurenai’s command. He was one of the only two survivors, but it was only because Yuhi was standing over him like a shield and glowing brightly with the mark of an Anathema.

Impulsive as always, Kurenai made his next decision quickly. Yuhi had become an “Anathema” while fighting to protect him, but the expression he wore was still the same uncertain, loyal gaze of his childhood friend. Kurenai had never in his life had anything taken away from him and he was not about to allow it to start with Yuhi as the Amilar reinforcements who were quickly drawing nearer spotted them. He shoved the reins of his beloved mare into Yuhi’s hands and commanded him to ride away that very moment and never to look back or to come back – an order his friend reluctantly obeyed.

What happened next is left to rumor and hearsay. Kurenai never speaks of what happened on the battlefield that day, and claimed that everyone died and all else that the Amilar may have seen were tricks of fae enchantment. Though protected by his family, Kurenai’s promising military career began to suffer. He became consumed with doubt over if the decision he had made was the right one, and was unable to bear the thought of even riding a horse again. He became even more temperamental, given to dark moods and violence against all who irritated him or questioned him too much.

Requesting transfer to another unit to start anew, he seeks to find meaning again in a life that has become unbalanced and complicated from the inner turmoil that now torments him.
